Belair National Park - Adventure Playground upgrade

A popular section of the Adventure Playground in the park will be updated in the second half of 2025, with construction expecting to commence in October.

The existing metal-framed playground will be replaced with a new playground improving visitor experience, decreasing safety risks and minimising ongoing maintenance.

The new playground design includes three slides, a climbing rope pyramid, monkey bars, three swings, a rock-climbing wall, an emu rocker and more!

The design features improved accessibility with multiple accessible play elements including a trampoline, nest swing, story board, platform, maze and xylophone.

It will be located in the middle of the picnic area and centred around an existing tree. Children and families will be able to enjoy the new playground in the expansive picnic area and shade of the towering gum trees. The location has been selected to align with the contours of the land to allow for better accessibility.

Natural colours and timber have been chosen to suit the natural surroundings and playful native animal elements have been included in the design for children to discover.

What is happening to the concrete play tunnels and wooden fort?

The beloved play tunnels and fort sections of the park will remain unchanged during these works.

The tunnels, fort and nature play sections of the playground have been identified for potential future upgrades and are subject to available funding. Future funding will be considered alongside other national park priorities.

The Department plans to engage with the community on any future upgrades to the play tunnels and fort.

Why is the playground being upgraded?

The existing metal playground in the park is at the end of its asset lifespan with minimal equipment remaining usable.

The playground was identified as a priority to be upgraded.

The swings, slide, monkey-bars and other metal framed play equipment will be replaced with modern play equipment of a similar play value.

The new playground will reduce ongoing maintenance, improve visitor safety and experience.
