Bushfire recovery news

Envi­ron­men­tal recov­ery after the summer’s bush­fires has been giv­en a boost with the appoint­ment of mem­bers for the Wildlife and Habi­tat Bush­fire Recov­ery Taskforce.

Work is under­way to sup­port the recov­ery of Kan­ga­roo Island wildlife fol­low­ing the sum­mer bush­fires, rang­ing from on-ground rapid assess­ment sur­veys to the man­age­ment of fer­al cats and pigs on the island.

Fer­al ani­mal man­age­ment on Kan­ga­roo Island is under­way to man­age fer­al cats and pigs to sup­port the recov­ery of native wildlife.

The Depart­ment for Envi­ron­ment and Water (DEW) has today launched its annu­al autumn pre­scribed burn pro­gram which aims to reduce the risk and impact of bush­fire across the state. 

A nation­al wildlife recov­ery work­shop has iden­ti­fied post-bush­fire strate­gies for the Kan­ga­roo Island dun­nart, glossy black cock­a­too and oth­er endan­gered species.
