Published: 01 September 2025

A portion of the Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Park has been temporarily restricted to protect cuttlefish hatchlings and eggs and ensure public safety during the deployment of an air bubble curtain. Penalties apply for entering the restricted area

Pursuant to Section 18(2)(a) and © of the Marine Parks Act 2007, it is prohibited for any member of the public to enter the designated zone surrounding the air bubble curtain installed at Stony Point, near Port Bonython.

The designated zone is located off the coast of Stony Point at the location marked in the below map. This prohibition operates for a period of 90 days, until 26 November 2025. The prohibition may be extended.

The purpose of the restriction is to ensure the protection of cuttlefish eggs and hatchlings against the potential impacts of the algal bloom, and to ensure public safety during operation of the bubble curtain, which may occur without warning.

Failure to comply with this notice may result in liability for criminal prosecution.
