Part closure of Murray River National Park - Katarapko Section

Katara­p­ko Island with­in Mur­ray Riv­er Nation­al Park is closed from Mon­day 2 Feb­ru­ary until Sun­day 15 Feb­ru­ary 2026 for pub­lic safe­ty fol­low­ing a bushfire.

A fire on Katara­p­ko Island has burnt along the banks of the Mur­ray Riv­er in heavy Redgum for­est. Dam­age to trees is present and many trees are at risk of drop­ping large limbs over the next two weeks. Katara­p­ko Island has lim­it­ed pub­lic access gen­er­al­ly, the major­i­ty of risk exists for house­boats and their oper­a­tors should they moor on the Islands banks.
