Track closure at Gawler Ranges National Park

Due to the con­tin­ued wet weath­er, select­ed tracks and camp­grounds are closed with­in Gawler Ranges Nation­al Park for pub­lic safety. 

Closed Tracks:

• LP Track Through to Pondanna
• Mat­tera Track
• Turkey Flat Track

Closed Camp­grounds:

• Mat­tera Campground
• Kolay Hut Campground
• Chillu­nie Campground

Vis­i­tors are strong­ly encour­aged to:

• Check cur­rent park alerts for updates
• Review the Out­back Road Con­di­tions Map (Depart­ment for Infra­struc­ture and Trans­port, South Australia) 

Access Con­di­tions:

• 2WD vehi­cles are not permitted
• 4WD access only
• Pro­ceed with cau­tion at all times

Impor­tant Trav­el Advice

• All vis­i­tors must dri­ve to the con­di­tions and ensure they are ful­ly prepared. 
• Inform a respon­si­ble per­son of your trav­el plans and expect­ed return, includ­ing who to con­tact if you fail to check in
• Car­ry mul­ti­ple forms of com­mu­ni­ca­tion, such as a satel­lite phone, per­son­al loca­tor beacon/​tracker, UHF radio, or Starlink
• Have appro­pri­ate recov­ery equip­ment and know how to use it
• Avoid dri­ving through flood­wa­ters or mud­dy areas — if unsure, exit your vehi­cle and assess the sur­face first (note: many vehi­cles become bogged when attempt­ing to bypass mud­dy patches)
• Stay on the track
• Remain with your vehi­cle if you become stuck
• Reduce tyre pres­sure when trav­el­ling on grav­el roads — this improves com­fort and helps min­imise dam­age to road surfaces
