Part closure of Flinders Chase NP and other western reserves

Par­tial clo­sure of Flinders Chase Nation­al Park and oth­er west­ern reserves for pub­lic safe­ty dur­ing pest ani­mal con­trol pro­gram from 25 July until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

Why are some areas of the park being closed to the public?

The Kan­ga­roo Island Fer­al Pig Erad­i­ca­tion Pro­gram, led by PIR­SA and part­ner­ing with Kan­ga­roo Island Land­scape Board and the Nation­al Parks and Wildlife Ser­vice is work­ing to erad­i­cate fer­al pigs from Kan­ga­roo Island. To enable these activ­i­ties to take place cer­tain areas of Flinders Chase Nation­al Park as well as the oth­er parks and reserves on the west­ern end of Kan­ga­roo Island will be closed to the pub­lic. Access to the main vis­i­tor attrac­tions of Remark­able Rocks and Admi­rals Arch will remain open to the pub­lic as normal.

What remains open to the public?

Access to Remark­able Rocks and Admi­rals Arch remains open to vis­i­tors as nor­mal, how­ev­er oth­er areas are closed for pub­lic safe­ty dur­ing pest ani­mal con­trol pro­gram from 25 July until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2022

Pub­lic access to Cape Bor­da along the main Bor­da Road remains open as nor­mal, and Har­vey’s Return camp­ground is open for visitors. 

What is closed and can­not be accessed by the public?

All grav­el roads in Flinders Chase Nation­al Park includ­ing Shack­le road, West Bay road and Ravine road are closed to pub­lic access dur­ing the pest ani­mal con­trol pro­gram from 25 July until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

Ravine Hike and Water­fall Creek Hike (Bil­ly Goat Falls) are both closed to pub­lic access dur­ing the pest ani­mal con­trol pro­gram from 25 July until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

Oth­er parks and reserves on the west­ern end of Kan­ga­roo Island that are closed to pub­lic access dur­ing the pest ani­mal con­trol pro­gram from 25 July until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2022 are:

  • Ravine Des Casoars Wilder­ness Pro­tec­tion Area
  • Kel­ly Hill Con­ser­va­tion Park 
  • Cape Bouguer Wilder­ness Pro­tec­tion Area
  • Cape Tor­rens WPA
  • West­ern Riv­er WPA
  • Vivonne Bay CP
