Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit Trail Restoration
Major restoration work is being undertaken along the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit Trail. This work is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
NOTE: Helicopter transport of materials will be occurring within the Park commencing 13 May 19. During this time Measdays Lookout Parking area will be closed on weekdays. There will be no access to Measday Hike, Adventure Hike and Pioneer Women’s Trail/Bullock Track from the parking area on weekdays.
How does this affect you?
Detours will be in place at certain times, including weekends on sections of the trail for public safety.
Please be aware that these detours can make the trail longer and/or steeper and require greater care to traverse.
NEW: Extra funding to allow additional upgrades
A further $2.9m will be spent on upgrades to the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit Trail to ensure the trail can withstand future storm events.
The funding brings to $5.4 million the total amount being invested in upgrading this extremely popular trail, which is used by over 600,000 visitors each year.
The new works require trail detours to be in place, but only on weekdays. Unless unforeseeable circumstances arise, on weekends and public holidays the regular trail route will remain open.
The Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit trail suffered significant storm damage in September 2016 and this additional funding will allow further works to be carried out to complete the upgrade of the trail and to ensure it can withstand future extreme weather events.
The additional upgrades will make the entire trail sustainable and storm-resistant from top to bottom, and will include creek bank stabilisation, new boardwalks, stonework and trail re-surfacing.
The upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
