The Volunteer Support Unit within the agency coordinates Consultative Committees (7) and Friends of Parks (141 such groups). More than 7,000 people participate in a voluntary capacity each year.
An annual forum is held in different locations across the State and draws up to 300 delegates and includes field excursions, a discussion forum on parks and wildlife management issues, awards, guest speakers, a dinner, and a large number of displays.
There are Friends of Parks Groups throughout South Australia. Any of these groups will welcome your membership enquiry. Objectives include manual projects, fund-raising, heritage sites, educational/cultural events, wildlife projects, publications, information displays, social programs, meeting other people and having fun.
Worldwide, the long-term survival of the national parks network is becoming more dependent on volunteer support and community involvement.
